NORMAN — Lon Kruger Monday afternoon was introduced as Oklahoma’s men’s basketball coach at McCasland Field House, the Sooners’ home gym before the Lloyd Noble Center was built.

“I don’t have a lot of fond memories of this building,” said Kruger, who played at Kansas State in the early 1970s. “In 1972 I was a sophomore. Scott Martin and Bobby Jack whipped up on us pretty good. They graduated and then Mike McCurdy whipped up on us pretty good.”

Kruger, 58, replaces Jeff Capel, who was fired three weeks ago after OU posted back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1967.

“We’re not rebuilding. We’re not bringing it back,” Kruger said. “We’re just hoping to continue what’s been very good here for a long time.”
