Nelly's Christmas Tips

My fourth tip is going to be a quick one. (You’re not the only one trying to get holiday stuff finished!) If you are doing any holiday cooking and run short on milk, if it is a savory (not sweet) dish, chicken broth will work nearly as well.

And now, just for fun, here’s my Grandma’s recipe for Buttermilk pie:

2 C buttermilk

1 C sugar

1 tsp margarine or butter

Dash salt

2 egg yolks

3 heaping tablespoons flour

Dash vanilla

Whisk all ingredients in a microwave safe glass bowl. Microwave on High for one minute and then stir. Repeat until you’ve microwaved for 5 minutes total.

Pour into a baked pie shell. Enjoy!

P.S. The microwave part of this recipe was not my Grandma’s method. She stirred her wrists off over the hot stove while the pudding thickened. You can do that if you’re bored.

Buttermilk Pi

No actual pictures of buttermilk pie where available at press time, so please accept this picture of a glass jug of buttermilk with the mathematical sign for “pi” photoshopped onto it.
