Did last week seem to take forever? I for one certainly enjoyed the time off over the holiday and could use a few two- or three-day work weeks a lot more often that once a year.

We at Visit Enid want to add our congratulations to Martie Oyler, the 2013 Pillar of the Plains winner announced last week. Martie’s contributions to Enid are numerous and invaluable and she is a very deserving winner. Also congratulations to the other finalists, Dr. David Russell, Larry & Rick Simpson and Gary Kirtley. All continue to serve Enid in a positive manner and our community is better because of the efforts of all the Pillar nominees.

The 2012 Outstanding New Attraction in Oklahoma, Enid’s Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center (pictured above), is seeking volunteers. They especially need help at the front desk and to give weekend tours. The Heritage Center is hosting a new volunteer orientation class this Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 2-4 pm at the museum located at 507 S 4th St – which is the corner of 4th and Owen K Garriott. Call director Andi Holland at 580.237.1907 to find out more.

It’s very important for members of a group or organization hosting an upcoming event to list their event on our new website’s Calendar of Events. It’s a free listing that serves dual purposes – it lets the public know about your event and also lets other event planners see what’s on the calendar for their planning needs. Submitting an event is easy. Go to VisitEnid.org and click on Calendar of Events. If it’s your first visit you’ll need to set up an account. Click on Register to add events and fill out the form. Once you set up your account you will be asked to log in with your newly-established password. You can then click on Add an Event and enter your event details. A Visit Enid staff member will review your information before it appears on the Calendar of Events. Call Rob at 580-616-7369 with questions.

Stake your claim for fun this week in Enid!
