Route 60 Sentinel

Consultant:  Enid Needs More Leisure Attraction:

From the file under “No Freaking Crap” pile:

A tourism consultant told Visit Enid Advisory Board one thing the city lacks is a major leisure attraction that will draw visitors from the major metros in the region.

Berkeley Young also said the city must target travelers in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

Grand Avenue Closed from Maine to Broadway

Beginning Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from approximately 7:00 p.m. until Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 7:00 a.m., the street crew will close Grand Avenue from Maine to Broadway for painting. The signal pole will be painted at the northeast corner of the Post office.  (Ok….so the rest of the poles?  They shall remain looking shitty?)

Motorists are urged to drive with caution near the street improvement area.  Of course, most Enid motorists to not drive with caution under normal circumstances, so disaster is inevitable.

Champlin Park Sees Concrete Work!

In news that will delight many young kids, pretty soon they might not have to climb over the orange safety fence at Champlin Park to enjoy the new equipment.  Concrete crews have been seen on site several days recently and progress has been moving forward.  😎   Yes, I just used an emoticon in a news brief.  That’s probably never happened before and it’s not likely to happen again.

Visit Enid Taps Lunday For This Week’s Insider

Visit Enid, this week selected Route 60’s very own Melodie Lunday as an Enid Insider.  However after reading her responses, and not seeing Route 60 mentioned as one of her favorite hobbies or hidden treasures, she might no longer be a Route 60 Insider.  More as this story develops.

Sen Cruz STILL Going

As I write this, it’s 3:45 a.m. and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas is still talking on the floor of the Senate.  Nearly, 3000 people are currently watching one of his pinch hitters, Senator Mike Lee of Utah on the Drudge Report.  Seriously?  Who stays up to watch that?  Cruz has even read Green Eggs and Ham.  On the floor of the U.S. Senate.  I mean, score for Dr. Suess.  But, if I ever get a chance to meet Senator Cruz, I’m totally getting him to sign a copy of that book.

A Gallup poll taken recently shows that the public perception of governmental power is that government has too much of it.  60% of the people polled, a ten year high, said that our government has too much power.  As a perfect companion, 32% of those polled said that it had just the right amount, a ten year LOW.  In other news, over HALF of President Barack Obama’s Twitter followers are fake and do not exist.  I realize that’s not relevant to the poll, but I found it hilarious so I just thought I’d toss that in there.

More CowbellDo not forget about the Enid Roller Girls at the big brand new event holding place downtown.  They will be there Saturday for their final bout of the season.  FILL IT UP ENID!  If you are not there, then you dang well better be at Fling at the Springs, which unfortunately will be happening at the same dang time.  I will be cloning myself to make appearances at both places.  We’ll see how that goes.  Either way, GO ERG!  PS:  First 250 fans at the ERG bout get a free cowbell courtesy of Pete Ramos Photography.  I don’t know about you…but I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!
