Route 60 Sentinel

Good Saturday to you!  Let’s start with weather shall we?

Saturday Night:    Mostly clear, with a low around 43. South southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.
Sunday:    Sunny, with a high near 73. South southwest wind 7 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Sunday Night:    Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Light and variable wind becoming north 6 to 11 mph after midnight.

After some consideration on my part, I’m officially on board with the idea of saving the Kress Building Facade.  While, I really have no sentimental attachment to it, I know it does for a lot of people.  Sure, I can remember going in there when I was a young lad.  But I can also remember going to Oakwood Mall while it still existed (Wait?  It’s still there?  REALLY?…let me correct that.) when it first opened.

But ultimately, here is why I want it saved.  THEY TOLD US IT WOULD BE.  It was a part of the agreement moving forward when the council voted to approve the hotel.  Now, they are saying it has to go.  Here is what needs to happen.  They need to keep to their word.  If it is saveable, they should save it.  Now, I fully understand that when it gets down to it, it may not be able to be saved.  After all, it’s just a facade.  The actual building has long since gone.  From what I understand it is pretty bad shape.

You need to contact the members of the City Council as ultimately, this will be their call.

She grew up in Hacienda Heights, CA and moved to Pond Creek, Oklahoma. There she met her future husband, Robin Bench. Robin and Susan moved to Enid in 1989 and they were married on November 14, 1992 in Las Vegas, NV. Robin Bench joined the Enid Police Department on January 16, 1989. He has been in the Patrol, traffic and Detective Divisions during his career. Susan graduated from the Enid Beauty College and has worked at Patton’s Hair Salon for approximately the last 22 years. They have two children. Their daughter, Braley Bench, is 17 years old and their son, Brayden Bench, is 14 years old. They go to school at Kremlin — Hillsdale and are active in sports. Susan and her family are members of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Last May one of Susan’s breasts began to hurt and she felt a lump in it. Shortly after that she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy a couple weeks later and has been taking chemotherapy. So far she has taken five treatments and she has three treatments left before they can test her again.
